The Silver Lining of “Silver Linings” (Silver Linings 5-31-2020)

June 5, 2020

I started writing “silver linings” for myself.  I wanted to remember the positive things that I could see happening—and I needed the reminder of good that can come out of bad.  Some days it was easy to find.  Some days, this has been a really hard game to play.

What I didn’t expect was how many people would tell me how this column has impacted them in some way.  For example, I received a lovely note who said, “Reading your ‘silver linings’ has become MY ‘silver lining.”  She explained that she, too, has seen some positives in her life during this odd time.

Another friend sent me an email.  She was reminded of “silver linings” on a recent drive.  She and her son drove through some showers of sun, just as Louie Armstrong was singing “What a Wonderful World” on the radio.  She said she and her son “sang together as little tears fell inside of me… then we saw a rainbow!”

Hearing about others’ experiences with this idea of “silver linings” is my “silver lining” today!

The editors here at the Reformer have asked me to go back to writing the normal column.  They noted that apparently quarantine has brought out the writer in many of us, and they are short on space for all the opinions and columns that they are currently receiving.

Today’s entry is the last I’m sending out through the Reformer.  I will continue to write them, however.

If you’d like to keep receiving “Silver Linings,” you can sign up to receive them directly to your email in-box through my blog.  Go to and go to “Silver Linings” blog.

Silver Linings…

started as my personal response to 2020’s global pandemic of COVID-19.  When I published them locally,  I was surprised by how much people responded to them.

I hope they bring some positivity to you, too, during this unsettling time
