SPEAKERS
Dr. Kenneth (Ken) Kalscheur, USDA Forage Research Center, Research Animal Scientist, Affiliate Faculty in the Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences, University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Dr. Kalscheur earned his B.S. in Dairy Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and his M.S. and Ph.D degrees in Animal Science from the University of Maryland. From 2001 to 2014, Dr. Kalscheur taught at South Dakota State University.
Dr. Kalscheur’s research specializes in fiber in dairy cow diets, dairy animal methane mitigation strategies. The Dairy Forage Research Unit’s mission is to enhance the productivity, efficiency and environmental sustainability of integrated dairy and forage systems through development of improved and adapted traditional and novel forages and management strategies.
Dr. Nigel Cook is a veterinarian and professor in the Food Animal Production Medicine, University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Veterinary Medicine; department chair since 2013.
He is a member of the food animal production medicine group and chair of the curriculum committee. He was President of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners for 2012/2013.
He teaches in the Core Skills and Advanced Skills in Production Medicine final year elective rotations and lectures on bovine mastitis, lameness, ventilation and animal welfare. Since 2010, he has been the director of the Dairyland Initiative program, an outreach vehicle developed to promote the construction of welfare friendly facilities for dairy cattle.
Dr. Paul M. Fricke was raised on his family’s row crop and dairy farm in Nebraska where his family continues to farm today. He is a professor at University of Wisconsin-Madison, Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences.
The goal of Dr. Fricke’s extension program is to improve reproductive efficiency of dairy cattle by applying knowledge gained through scientific research to develop practical management strategies and assess new reproductive technologies, and to disseminate that information throughout the world. Dr. Fricke is a sought-after speaker,, In addition, Paul has presented at conferences in 36 U.S. states and six Canadian provinces and has been an invited speaker for international meetings in 31 countries spanning 6 continents around the world.
