“So,” my sister said to me as we both headed off to bed, “since you are almost always up early… if you get up, and you decide you want to see the sunrise… you come wake me up and we’ll go.”
She knows me well: I was fully awake by 5:40 AM. We drive quickly, headed out to a peninsula that juts out with water views for both ends of the day.
We are rewarded for our early efforts. After the sun comes up, we enjoy that exquisite light that makes the marshes glow, the quiet waters glisten and the sailboats gleam.
It’s the best way to start the day—and I am again thankful that we have chosen to do this. It is not our normal Labor Day weekend, but it’s a great silver lining.
