Photography Class (Silver Linings, 10-9-2020)

October 9, 2020

It’s only 11 AM, but I already know what has made the “silver lining” ranking today: it’s photography class for my high school sophomore daughter.

Back in August, she was thrilled when her advisor confirmed she could get into photography this fall.  She has two classes she’s enjoying greatly this fall, but photography engages her the most.

Today is not her in-person learning day, so today’s class is completely online.  All things considered, I believe photography transfers over to remote learning quite well.  They have a lecture first, via Zoom.  Then, he sends them out with an assignment.

If they were all in school right now, their subject choices would be limited to the world directly around the school.  Instead, they roam and search around their homes.  For my daughter, this means she can (and does) photograph chickens, bunnies and dogs.  Or she might stroll down our driveway to the neighbors’, where she has captured cows and sheep.  She can wander in our backyard and focus on flowers and leaves and bugs and trees.

It’s a silver lining for the class.  (Perhaps it’s even a silver lining for the teacher?  Maybe he’s enjoying more variety this year, too?)

Silver Linings…

started as my personal response to 2020’s global pandemic of COVID-19.  When I published them locally,  I was surprised by how much people responded to them.

I hope they bring some positivity to you, too, during this unsettling time
