One of Those Days

chickens 2

February 23, 2021

A lot of things went wrong today.

I will summarize it in one quick sentence, and not take you down every unfortunate and difficult step of the day.   It started with COVID isolation frustration… continued through quarantine-necessitated extra work… an unexpected visit from a predator, which I should have noticed and didn’t… the death of two of my hens, one of them a personal favorite of mine.  It ended with the discovery of someone remote controlling my computer and three hours with various technical experts to fix it.

It’s not an easy day to find the silver lining.

But that’s what I signed myself up for, no matter what, and so I am truly forcing myself to look hard for the “GOOD thing that happened—BECAUSE of a pandemic.”

The silver lining I see here is the realization that it could have been worse.

I’ve refocused my way of looking at things, and I recognize that we are not truly “isolated”.  We have phones, texts and email (even if it was being hacked, it still worked).  Imagine if this were even twenty years earlier?

The extra work-related calls we make because two people in our home contracted COVID also meant a chance to have real interactions.  People do truly care about other’s health—particularly now, I find.

The other two don’t have anything to do with COVID.  Predators—both hawks against chickens and hackers against humanity in general—just exist.  I guess the “COVID silver lining” of these two items can only be that I keep trying to find silver linings in everything nowadays?

I’m just going to end today’s entry with this:  I don’t want to find extra silver linings tomorrow!

Silver Linings…

started as my personal response to 2020’s global pandemic of COVID-19.  When I published them locally,  I was surprised by how much people responded to them.

I hope they bring some positivity to you, too, during this unsettling time
