Did you know the US government hopes to promote global understanding by sponsoring high school students to come into the USA every year? For several decades, young people from specific countries have gotten to know Americans on a personal level, all through the Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) and Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) programs.
These students are carefully selected from a large pool of applicants–because this is a chance of a life time for those who get to spend a year living out their American dream! Due to COVID-19 this year, causing visa delays and other difficulties, these young people were crushed when the State Department told them they couldn’t come for the fall semester.
However, the State Department has just announced that students CAN come–arriving in time for the second semester!
It’s a great way to get started in hosting, too, especially if a family thought an entire academic year was too long. Contact Jill if you would like to host in the second semester!
