Dawn Comes to a Weary World (7-29 2020)

dawn

July 31, 2020

There is a surreal quality to much of life throughout these past seven months.  Sometimes I feel I am fully present and engaged.  Other days, it’s like everything is in a fog.  I am slogging through it, not knowing where I am going, if what I am doing will make any difference or if I will be forced to redo it all again tomorrow…

Perhaps I am alone in this feeling?  I tend to think I am not, but maybe I am overly optimistic? I hear people ask, “Wait… what day is it again?”  I even read an essay somewhere, about how “every day is Wednesday now,” because the weekdays blur together with the weekends.  This leads me to believe that many might also feel they are stumbling and bumbling about a bit right now.

So that means that my “silver lining” for today is my new awareness of my own need for focus and clarity.

Better still, it brings out a very heartfelt gratitude for my morning walks.  Seeing the world go from grey to glorious yellows…  watching the sun rise up over the mountain… feeling captivated by the quality of the light just after dawn… photographing the world as it pushes me into another day…

These are the moments I hang onto throughout the rest of my waking hours, especially on those mentally foggy days.  It’s the place of peace my mind goes back to, buttressing against the uncertainty swirling all around in the world.

I leave my computer this evening, determined to hold onto that emotional positivity for longer tomorrow.  I will remember the silver lining it brought me today, and make tomorrow a better day.

Silver Linings…

started as my personal response to 2020’s global pandemic of COVID-19.  When I published them locally,  I was surprised by how much people responded to them.

I hope they bring some positivity to you, too, during this unsettling time
